One-to-one Laptops
All high school and middle school students can pick up a 1:1 laptop starting tomorrow, Monday Aug 10. Those that have a laptop from the spring school closure must return that laptop and pick up an updated one that has been specifically set up for them.

The Yakima School District is proud to announce the hiring of Arlando Lara as a new assistant principal at Wilson Middle School.
Arlando is returning to the valley having grown up and graduated from high school in Toppenish. After attending Pacific Lutheran University he began his teaching career in the Bethel School District and subsequently worked as an assistant principal in the Kent and Tacoma school districts. He also served as principal for the Washington Virtual Academy.
His wife, Jessica also works in education as part of the non-profit sector. Their children keep them very busy, with Avalyn beginning her sophomore year at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Their daughters Bryn (senior), Ariah (8th grade), and son Riley (6th grade) round out the Lara family. The family enjoys camping around the state anywhere near the water! Arlando looks forward to contributing to the already quality work being done at Wilson Middle School and cannot wait to connect and build relationships with families and students.

The Yakima School District will be in Stage A of our reopening plan for the first semester of the 2020-21 school year. Stage A is fully remote/distance learning.

On Monday, August 3, 2020, the Yakima School Board approved YSD's proposed Reopening Plan for OSPI. This is NOT an alert of how school will start in the fall (i.e. distance learning) but we expect that info from the health dept in 1-2 days. Participating middle schools include: Wilson, Washington, Franklin, Discovery Lab, Lewis & Clark and Union Gap.
About the exhibit: Yakima Middle School Art Teachers collaborate throughout the year to host our spring show. While the schools are now closed due to COVID-19, we don't want our students to miss this special opportunity to showcase their talents! The exhibit originated at Washington Middle School in 1999 thanks to its founding director/teacher Leslie Pease. Our devoted team of art educators strive to enhance every student's creative potential and provide equal opportunity for each child. In celebration of our youth and vibrant community of artists, we thank you for your continued support of Yakima Schools and the Arts!
