  • Whitney Families,

Our School is using PBIS Rewards to help us with our PBIS program. PBIS Rewards is a technology-based PBIS Management System that helps us with our behavior incentive program. You can learn about PBIS Rewards at their website (www.pbisrewards.com).

Our students can earn rewards throughout the day by meeting our behavior expectations. These rewards are in the form of electronic points. They can redeem these points for privileges, tangible items, access to events, and other similar things. Our expectation is that we will see overall behavior improve throughout the school.

To help your child set up their account, please watch the following video:

  • Whitney Families –

Attached is a You Tube video link that will help explain remote learning and what remote learning “Best Practices” look like for your children.  Jeff Utecht is the speaker and trainer in the video who has trained not only YSD teachers, but many teachers in the state this last spring and summer.  He spoke to families in a neighboring district and shared it with all of us on You Tube.  In our schedule we have time for both synchronous and asynchronous learning as well as time for small group instruction via synchronous meetings.  Mr. Utecht explains the importance of asynchronous learning in this model for core or new instruction.  Live google meets or synchronous learning are also important, but they should be used for interactions, feedback, to see teachers and friends, part of discussions and conversations around the learning.  Thank you for taking the time to watch and thank you for teaming with us.

    Familias Whitney -

    Sra. Newell y Sr. Hunt

  • Whitney Families -
In preparation for the 2020-21 school year we want to share some resources with you.  Please see the attached document for more information and why we would like to suggest opening a separate Gmail account for school resources only.  This would be your family account and separate from your student's school gmail.  Your child's teacher can add you to google classroom where you will see all of your student's assignments.
This link is access to a Parent Portal with video tutorials to help you and your child access various platforms for learning that we will be using this year at Whitney.  Please continue to watch our Whitney website for updates.  Thank you for being a partner with us in your student's education!

  • Drive Through Library Book Checkout at Whitney Elementary

Posted by Kim Newell on 9/16/2020

Whitney Elementary Drive Through Library Book Pickup:

Whitney Elementary is offering a drive through library book checkout to their students.  Each Wednesday, students are lining up in the bus lane to pick up the books that they requested for the week.  The no-contact delivery system is working well.  This drive through system and the checkout system have been very well received by both parents and students.  A parent this morning said, “Thank you so much for this amazing service you are offering our students!”  This past week, Whitney had 88 students reserve books through the Whitney Library page.  Way to go Mrs. Cleveringa and library checkout team!

  • EBT Funds Available to All YSD Students

Posted by YSD Food Services on 7/6/2020

Because COVID-19 closed our schools, your children are eligible for food assistance, called Pandemic EBT (P-EBT): Emergency School Meals Program.

P-EBT provides families with funds to make up for some of the cost of meals while school was closed. This benefit is for Washington children in grades K-12 who receive free or reduced-price school meals. These benefits will be on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card which is used like a debit card to buy groceries. Because all YSD students receive free breakfast and lunch, all YSD students are eligible regardless of income. If you do not already receive benefits, you will need to apply on or after June 30.  If you receive food assistance benefits already, the money will appear on your EBT on June 30.

Update 7/6/20: We have been in contact with OSPI last week and they said that DSHS had the incorrect student list for Yakima School District which is why they turned down some parents; they are updating with the correct list which will show any student enrolled in Yakima School District that was grade K-12 in the school year 2019-2020 as eligible for PEBT.

If you were denied, go to WashingtonConnections.org and apply again and see if their list has been updated. You can inform them Yakima is a CEP district.
