On April 2, Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction, Chris Reykdal, visited my Spanish class at AC Davis High School to hear students’ perspectives and experiences regarding the pandemic and school.
Superintendent Reykdal was impressed with the number of students, especially 9th and 10th graders, who had been working throughout the pandemic. In addition, he was struck by the large number of students who identified as speaking Spanish at home and recognized our multilingual students as a huge asset for our school and community. He heard students share the positive impact of flexible and understanding educators, coaches that motivate and encourage students not only in sports but also in academics, and the importance of being able to take meaningful classes. It was an honor to have Superintendent Reykdal in my classroom to be able to meet our amazing students.
