Community Eligibility Provision

The Yakima School District is participating in a federal program available to select schools as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program called Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This means that all students attending our District are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at no charge throughout the 2022-2023 school year, regardless of family or household income.

September Family Income Survey

We recently mailed some families a Family Income Survey form. The District is participating in a federal program called the Community Eligibility Provision Program which is a program that allows all children in our District to eat at no charge. However, some education programs we provide are funded with state dollars based on the results of the income survey. We strongly encourage you to return the Family Income Survey as completing the form can help students receive important resources such as; before and after school programs; resources for classrooms and more! Please return your application to your child’s school or the District office as soon as possible. Thank you for helping us with this very important survey.

In the Yakima School District, we are dedicated to promoting children's well-being and nutritional health. As part of our commitment to prioritizing child nutrition, we have implemented a comprehensive wellness policy that provides nutritious meals and creates a supportive food environment. Our approach ensures that children have access to balanced and wholesome meals, incorporating essential nutrients for their growth and development. Additionally, we collect valuable wellness assessment data better to understand each child's nutritional needs and preferences. This information allows us to tailor our meal programs and educational initiatives, empowering children to make healthy choices and cultivate lifelong habits contributing to their overall well-being. Through our child nutrition-focused wellness policy and assessment data, we strive to create a nurturing environment where children can thrive and reach their full potential.

Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program provides free samples of new produce items for elementary students that they may not have been exposed to before, such as dragon fruit or purple sweet potatoes. The goal of the program is to help introduce students to healthy eating habits and get them excited about including a variety of fruits and vegetables in their diet. The Yakima School District Child Nutrition Department is proud to have participated in this program for 12 years.
