Hi, I'm Howie!

Howie the Border Collie would like to welcome YSD families to the new Health and Wellness Education (HWE) Center! The center is located at 331 N. 1st Street in Yakima. The mission of HWE is to provide YSD families with health guidance and support needed for the educational success of students. Some of the resources HWE will offer include:

  • Physical and mental health care
  • Case management
  • Disease Prevention
  • Educational opportunities

Measles Information & Vaccine Requirements

Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious health complications, especially for babies and young children. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes, and a rash that spreads from the face down the body.

Washington state requires children entering childcare, kindergarten, or grade school to be vaccinated against measles. Learn more on our school and childcare immunizations page.

Free Naloxone for Families

Naloxone is a medicine that can save a life if someone overdoses on opioids. Families in Washington can now get naloxone at no cost for use at home.

This program is supported by Washington State. It's a helpful way for families to be prepared in case of an emergency.

Upcoming Events

Sports Physicals and Immunizations

Our Health and Wellness Education Center (HWE) will be hosting sports physicals and immunizations on the following dates:

August 5, 6, 7, 12, and 13
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
331 N. 1st Street, Yakima, WA 98901

This clinic, hosted in partnership with Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, will offer:

  • Sports Physicals for $10.00

  • Immunizations with a $5.00 administrative fee

Appointments are required. To schedule, please call (509) 864-1428.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. A Parent Consent and Health History Form signed by a parent or guardian is required. Forms will be provided upon arrival.

In addition, MultiCare will be offering free sports physical screenings for students at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (Butler/Haney Hall) on the following dates:

  • Friday, July 25 | 4:00–8:00 PM

  • Saturday, July 26 | 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

  • Friday, August 1 | 4:00–8:00 PM

  • Saturday, August 2 | 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

These free screenings are open to the community and intended to help student-athletes meet school participation requirements. Sports physical forms will be available at the event. Students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and should wear gym clothes.
