Year-End Celebrations Honor Achievement & Cultural Heritage
The Yakima School District honors the diverse achievements and unique journeys of our graduating students.
40th Annual “Black Elegance” Celebration
The 40th Annual "Black Elegance" celebration marked a milestone achievement in recognizing and uplifting African American students throughout the Yakima community. Hosted in partnership with dedicated community allies, this event brought together families, educators, and community leaders to celebrate academic excellence and cultural pride in an atmosphere filled with joy, inspiration, and powerful affirmation.
This cherished annual tradition honors African American high school and college graduates while also recognizing students in grades 6th through 12th for their academic achievements and personal growth. The celebration serves as both a recognition ceremony and a source of encouragement, reminding each student of their immense value, unlimited potential, and the bright futures that await them.
CTE Awards Ceremony
The achievements recognized at this year's awards ceremony highlight the incredible talent and hard work of our students. These young professionals are actively shaping their futures through hands-on learning and real-world experiences. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the honorees and their families, and we look forward to watching these individuals continue to shine as they embark on their exciting journeys ahead.

This achievement represents a collaborative effort between our dedicated educators, support staff, and administrators who work tirelessly to ensure all students have equal access to quality education.
Native American Student Graduation
Yakima School District held a special graduation ceremony for Native American Students. The event brought together families, community members, and district leadership to honor the achievements of Native American graduates in a program rich with cultural tradition and community spirit. Traditional Native American dancers and drummers, including performances by the Umtuch family with drumming by Arianne Sheka, provided powerful cultural elements that added deep significance to the celebration.
Following a prayer and the Yakima Land Acknowledgement, guests enjoyed a dinner prepared by YSD Nutrition Services, provided courtesy of the Johnson-O'Malley Program. Elese Washines from the Yakama Nation delivered a special message to the graduates, offering words of wisdom and encouragement as they embark on their next chapter. A special thank you to Morgan Greene, whose artwork was featured in a commemorative piece presented to each graduate.
