Yakima School District Gives Kindergarteners A Warm Welcome

Yakima School District Gives Kindergarteners A Warm Welcome
  • Elementary

To help welcome kindergarteners this school year, Yakima School District gave away "Welcome Kits."

Starting Kindergarten is a big milestone for young students and their families. To help mark the occasion, Yakima School District warmly welcomed its newest learners with thoughtful “Welcome to Kindergarten” kits, made possible through the generosity of community partners.

Each kit was designed to spark excitement during the transition to school. Students received Skateland skating passes to encourage fun and active family time, a free fry coupon generously donated by McDonald’s of Yakima, a pack of “Jitter Glitter,” to calm nerves, and even a personalized message recorded by each child’s teacher. Each piece of the kit helped students feel connected before they set foot in the classroom.

These small but meaningful touches show the power of community working together to support education. The Yakima School District is grateful to McDonald’s, Skateland, and everyone who supported this effort that helped make our youngest learners feel celebrated as they began their educational journey.

This story aligns with Goal 2 of our Strategic Plan: all students will develop habits and behaviors that elevate student voice, resilience, and personal ownership in a safe, caring, and supportive environment. To learn more about our strategic plan, visit ysd7.org/strategicplan.
