Preschoolers Experience "Big Kid School" at Hoover Elementary
- Elementary
Excitement filled the halls of Hoover as preschoolers participated in a kindergarten transition program.
The young visitors, accompanied by EPIC staff and families, experienced a guided tour of the school, time spent in kindergarten classrooms, and opportunities to meet potential future teachers and staff members.
"Our goal is to help every student feel love and belonging before the school year even begins," said Julio Sanchez, Principal of Hoover Elementary School.
During their visit, the preschoolers learned about "The Hoover Way" expectations: being Respectful, Responsible, Ready, and Safe. These core values were practiced throughout various activities as students moved through the building and engaged with different spaces.
A highlight of the day occurred when students explored the playground, with the rocket ship proving especially popular among the preschoolers. The day concluded with each child receiving "Hoover Swag" as a memento of their visit.
The event reflected the genuine curiosity and enthusiasm of the preschoolers, many of whom explored their future learning environment with smiles and wide eyes. One enthusiastic student even asked, "Can I come back tomorrow?"
Now in its second year, the transition program is part of Hoover Elementary's growing commitment to creating smoother early educational transitions. The initiative aligns with Yakima School District and Principal Sanchez's participation in the University of Washington Early Education Fellowship for Inclusion, Equity, and Belonging, which supports efforts to create more inclusive and welcoming school environments for the youngest learners and their families.
Hoover Elementary School plans to continue building upon this successful transition program in future years, helping each new group of kindergarteners begin their educational journey with confidence and excitement.
