HWE Hosts Successful 4th Annual Summer Resource Fair

Yakima School District’s Health and Wellness Education Center (HWE) hosted its 4th Annual Summer Kick-Off Resource Fair on May 14, bringing together 26 local organizations to help families prepare for a healthy, active summer!
 

Families were thrilled to discover the wealth of programs available in the Yakima Valley. "I had no idea the Yakima Valley had so many cool programs for kids," one excited mom shared as she collected information for summer activities. A heartwarming moment came when a father of three boys won one of the incredible gift baskets donated by participating organizations. Their basket contained Nerf toys, a basketball, and water balloons, prompting one child to exclaim, "This is the best day ever!"

Standout resources included Yakima Parks and Recreation, YMCA summer camps, the ESD Literacy Program, and Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes, all providing valuable tools for families to maintain healthy routines throughout summer break.

"Putting on the Summer Kick-Off is seriously the best," said Erica Aparicio, Community Health Worker at YSD's HWE. "I love what I do, and it's so rewarding to help educate families and give back in the community. Seeing those kids light up when they get a free book or helmet is priceless."
 

The successful event achieved its goal of connecting families with comprehensive resources, information about summer programs, access to community assistance, and the opportunity to kick-start a fun and healthy summer.
