Growing Together: Rotary Club Plants 30 Trees at YSD Schools

Yakima Rotary Volunteers
  • Elementary

Volunteers planted 30 oak seedlings at Discovery Early Learning Center and Robertson Elementary.

We are grateful to the volunteers of all ages from the Southwest Rotary Club of Yakima who came out on Saturday, April 26 to enhance two of our school campuses with new trees. Volunteers worked together to plant 30 Northern Red Oak seedlings in the playgrounds of Discovery Early Learning Center and Robertson Elementary.

These trees will provide many benefits as they mature – creating much-needed shade during warm months, improving air quality through natural filtration, and beautifying the campus environments for years to come.

As students progress through their YSD education, they will witness these saplings grow, fostering a connection to nature and understanding of environmental stewardship. What a wonderful way to learn about growth, patience, and the importance of caring for our planet than by growing up alongside these magnificent trees!

This story aligns with Goal 2 of our Strategic Plan: all students will develop habits and behaviors that elevate student voice, resilience, and personal ownership in a safe, caring, and supportive environment. To learn more about our strategic plan, visit ysd7.org/strategicplan.
