Franklin Middle School Celebrates Canned Food Drive Success

The Franklin Middle School community collected over 1,000 donated food items for Rod's House.
The Franklin Middle School community hosted another successful canned food drive this year! Our Midway Helpers collected over 1,000 donated food items for Rod's House, a local organization that supports young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing shelter, meals, basic needs support, life skills guidance, and more.
This incredible achievement would not have been possible without the generous donations from our students, families, and staff. A special thank you goes to students in Mr. Rose's, Mrs. Juarez's, and Mr. Barnhart's classes, who led the donation drive with the highest number of contributions. One last shout-out to 6th grade student Amaris A., whose donation was so substantial that it had to be wheeled in!
This food drive demonstrates the powerful impact our school community can have when we come together for a common cause. There's something especially meaningful about young people helping other young people in need. Through their efforts, Franklin Middle School students are not only providing essential resources, but also modeling the kind of caring leadership that strengthens our entire community.
This story aligns with Goal 2 of our Strategic Plan: all students will develop habits and behaviors that elevate student voice, resilience, and personal ownership in a safe, caring, and supportive environment. To learn more about our strategic plan, visit ysd7.org/strategicplan.
