The Yakima School District hosted its first-ever Family Night At the Museum on August 12.

The Yakima School District was proud to host its first-ever Family Night At the Museum last night, creating an evening of learning, discovery, and family bonding at the Yakima Valley Museum. 276 people attended, exploring hands-on exhibits, participating in an engaging scavenger hunt, and enjoying dinner together.

Students and families delighted in discovering the museum's unique exhibits, which featured artifacts from around the world, a “Cabinet of Curiosities,” and even elaborate Quinceañera dresses, sparking excitement and wonder for visitors of all ages.

“We were thrilled to partner with the Yakima Valley Museum to provide a special opportunity for families to learn together, create memories, and celebrate the joy of discovery,” said Berenice Ponce, Family and Community Engagement Supervisor.

When surveyed about their favorite part of the visit, one parent enthusiastically shared: “Everything! Lived here for 45 years, this was my first time at this museum. Awesome experience, thank you so much!" Something that made the event especially meaningful was finding that many families had never visited the museum before. Not only did this event provide an opportunity to connect with the school community, but it also provided a chance to have new experiences within the Yakima Valley community. As another family remarked: "My boys enjoyed seeing the live bees and playing in the exploration space. I loved watching them light up as we shared interesting facts from each exhibit. Thank you for this wonderful experience."

The Yakima School District extends its gratitude to the Yakima Valley Museum for opening their doors to our district families. There was much excitement about this event, and registration filled up quickly. Looking ahead, the district hopes to expand these opportunities so that even more families can participate in similar educational experiences.
