Mr. Tyrrell's class volunteered at Yakima Humane Society, walking dogs and learning about them.

This fall, students in Mr. Tyrrell's class spent a memorable morning volunteering with the Yakima Humane Society, where they walked dogs and showered the shelter animals with attention and affection.

The volunteer outing was a positive experience for everyone involved. Students had the opportunity to connect with adoptable animals while learning about how to interact with dogs in a safe and caring manner. Meanwhile, the dogs enjoyed a much-needed break from their kennel routine, getting fresh air and exercise outdoors with their new companions.

These types of community partnerships demonstrate the value of connecting classroom learning with real-world service. By engaging with local organizations like the Yakima Humane Society, students develop empathy, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of their community's needs. The Yakima School District continues to support and encourage these meaningful collaborations between schools and local community organizations, recognizing that they enrich both student learning and the broader community.
