Global Citizenship

As part of the Yakima School District's strategic plan GOAL 5 Bilingual and Biliterate by Graduation, the communications and engagement department is working to provide exposure for YSD students to unique international programming.  

In April (2023), 72 students from Yamate Gakuin Schools in Yokohama, Japan, arrive in Yakima and will stay for two weeks. This exchange has occurred for nearly 50 years! It only happens every three years, and host families are always needed.  Every three years in August, YSD takes up to 35 students to Yokohama to complete the exchange. The cost for families for this exchange is approximately $2500, including airfare.  Some partial scholarships are available.
