Global Citizenship

As part of the Yakima School District's strategic plan GOAL 5 Bilingual and Biliterate by Graduation, we are working to provide YSD students with exposure to unique international programming.  

In April (2024), 72 students from Yamate Gakuin Schools in Yokohama, Japan, arrived in Yakima and stayed for two weeks. This exchange has occurred for nearly 50 years! Beginning in 2025, , and host families are always needed.  Every three years in August, YSD takes up to 35 students to Yokohama to complete the exchange. The cost for families for this exchange is approximately $2500, including airfare.  Some partial scholarships are available.
