Japanese Cultural Showcase Family Night

Mark your calendars for a unique celebration of culture, learning, and community engagement at the Japanese Cultural Showcase Family Night happening on April 16th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Eisenhower High School Commons.

This event will spotlight the rich traditions and artistic expressions of Japan, brought to life by the talented Japanese exchange students from Yamate Gakuin High School. We are honored to host these 77 students as they share their culture with us, making this night a memorable experience for the entire Yakima School District community.

The Japanese Cultural Showcase Family Night is more than an event; it's an opportunity for parents and families to immerse themselves in a different culture right here in our community. Together, we'll enjoy:

  • Cultural Showcase & Activities: Dive into traditional Japanese games like Fukuwarai, Kamizumo, and Hanetsuki. Try your hand at Shodo calligraphy, learn the art of Origami, and even master the use of chopsticks. From wearing a Yukata to participating in Otedama juggling, there's an activity for every age.

  • Exciting Performances: Feel the energy of Soranbushi folk songs, witness the precision of Karate and Kendo, and be mesmerized by the Koto music. Plus, unique performances like Kehaikiri and Nininbaori promise lots of laughter.

  • Japanese-Themed Dinner: To complete the experience, enjoy a delicious dinner featuring Japanese cuisine.

This event is not just about showcasing the talents and teachings of our guests from Yamate Gakuin; it's a testament to the power of community, education, and cultural exchange. Open to all families and students within the Yakima School District, we encourage you to join us for a night of engagement, learning, and fun.
