With an emphasis on health equity, improved academic outcomes, and key strategic partnerships, HWE supports families with age-appropriate trauma-informed care.

Hi, I'm Howie!
Howie the Border Collie would like to welcome YSD families to the new Health and Wellness Education (HWE) Center! The center is located at 331 N. 1st Street in Yakima. The mission of HWE is to provide YSD families with health guidance and support needed for the educational success of students. Some of the resources HWE will offer include:
- Physical and mental health care
- Case management
- Disease Prevention
- Educational opportunities

Make your Appointment Now!
Want your student to start school on time next year? Make a well-child visit appointment now to complete:
· Vaccinations – Sign up for MyIR (My Immunization Record) to see if your student needs any school required immunizations.
· Individual Health Plans (IHP) for Asthma, Diabetes, Life-Threatening Allergies, Seizures and other life-threatening conditions (complete yearly)
· Medication authorization paperwork for medicine taken at school (complete yearly)
· Annual/sports physicals if your student will play sports (complete yearly)
Make your appointment NOW! Clinics are often booked MONTHS in advance, so don’t wait. And don’t forget to bring your important paperwork—many clinics charge a fee ($20 or more) to complete paperwork outside of an appointment.

Please be aware of and help us prepare for a measles outbreak
Measles is an airborne virus- precautions would include masking (and other COVID social distancing practices.) It is HIGHLY encouraged by DOH and CDC to prepare by identifying which students and staff are vaccinated or at risk. In case of an outbreak- quick access to this information (may) help keep buildings open.

Used correctly, backpacks can be a good way to carry all the books, supplies, and personal items needed for a child’s typical school day. However, backpacks that are too heavy or carried incorrectly can injure muscles or joints and contribute to back pain and other problems. Learn more here.
