Principal's Message:
Dear Eisenhower Community:
I want to thank each of you for your patience during this unique time, as the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted all of our lives and altered our daily routines, dramatically. As was released earlier and communicated widely though the Yakima Herald and social media, the Yakima School District announced that we will start the 2020-2021 school year remotely. This decision is in the best interest of student, staff, family and community safety. We know this situation will present several challenges; however, our staff worked to create a daily schedule to leverage the tremendous opportunities that exist with distance learning. Eisenhower staff is committed to assuring success though our new and improved model and will create lessons that are engaging and interactive. Teachers will be using Google Meet to hold live classroom meetings and create instructional videos. They will also be proactive in reaching out, while making themselves available for students and families via email, Google Meet and other mediums. We will assure a quality education for all of our students.
The school year will start on Wednesday, August 26. We will send out email invitations to all of our students to ‘meet’ virtually with their advisory class to review the daily schedule. Our schedule, for the first quarter of the school year, will include Advisory and three other class periods (Periods 1-3-5). Students enrolled at YV-Tech will take their YV-Tech classes and the aligned core classes (i.e. Periods 1,3 and YV-Tech) The reason for this schedule is to make distance learning more productive and manageable for students. Second quarter will continue with Advisory and an additional three periods, so each student will complete six classes over the course of the semester. Students will have access to materials for all of their classes in their Canvas and ysd7 email accounts. If you have technical difficulties, (email studenthelpdesk@ysd7.org or call (509) 573-7120).
Communication will be essential as we prepare and start the year remotely, and students will need to access their school email daily. Families...please check the Yakima School District and Eisenhower websites (ysd7.org and ysd.org/Eisenhower), follow us on Facebook, and continue to listen to our auto calls for the most up-to-date information. This year we will also send newsletters on a monthly basis to inform families of upcoming events. I also encourage you to email, call, or use the Let’s Talk app on the Yakima School District website to communicate with us.
Together, our Eisenhower community will flourish in this new learning model. This is an exciting time, but, notwithstanding, I look forward to an eventual return of students to the building and am excited to eventually resume evening school events.
Please stay safe and connected to our communication outlets. Let’s make it a great year!
Sincerely,
Eric Diener
