Public Records Request

The Yakima School District follows the Public Records Act regarding disclosure of its public records. Under state law, a public records request must include a reasonable description that would allow a school district employee on how to locate the records.

NOTE: For Transcripts or other Student Education Records, please contact Alexandra Felix, Student & Family Center.  These are not considered public records and any request for them submitted through this form will be referred to the Student & Family Center and administratively closed.

Request Form

In order to provide better and more expedient customer service, we have opened an online portal where public records requests can be submitted and retrieved.

The online portal can be accessed at ysdeddprr.exterro.net.

A digital copy of the request form can be downloaded by clicking on the button below. A hard copy can be requested by calling (509) 573-7000 or emailing public.records@ysd7.org. Please include a mailing address if you would like it mailed.

You may also send in your own written request. Make sure to include your contact information (email addresses are helpful) and detailed information of the records you want.

After We Receive Your Request

Within five business days of receiving a public record request, the Yakima School District will:

  1. Provide the record; or
  2. Provide an internet address and link on the district’s web site to the specific records requested; or
  3. Acknowledge that the district has received the request and provide a reasonable estimate of the time the district will require to respond to the request; or
  4. Deny the public record request with a written statement as to why it is being withheld and a citation of the specific exemption (RCW) that applies.

In that event that the request is unclear, the district will contact the requestor within five days to clarify the intent of the request. Once clarified, the district will respond in accordance with the guidelines stated above. If the requestor fails to clarify the request, the district may consider the request closed.

No request will be denied solely on the basis that the request is overbroad.

If the record which is requested for inspection and/or copying contains both information exempted from disclosure and nonexempt information, the district will produce as much of the record as possible, with the exempt portion redacted, and will provide a written explanation for the redaction.

Cost

Public records will be available for inspection and copying during the district's customary office hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (please call 509-573-7000 for holiday hours). There is no cost to view records at the Yakima School District.

YSD is not allowed to make a profit from copy fees, but may charge a reasonable fee for costs incurred by the agency during the production of records. In accordance with RCW 42.56.120 and WAC 392-105-030, the charges for production are as follows:

Note: A 10% deposit may be required.
