The Yakima School District is proud to announce the hiring of TJ Bell-Davis as the 2020-2021 principal of Robertson Elementary School. TJ will replace principal Mark Hummel, who is retiring.
My name is TJ Bell-Davis and I am honored to serve as Robertson Elementary School’s next principal.
I began my career in education more than 20 years ago when I was a college student at California State University-Bakersfield. Since then I have been an English Language Arts teacher in elementary, middle and high school.
I have been the Center Director of two tutoring centers and a Facility Director for three programs serving military children from birth to 18 years old. I also spent two years as an Assistant Principal in Tacoma Public Schools and one year as an Interim Principal in Federal Way Public Schools. My husband is a retired Army veteran and we have been in Washington with our three children for four years.
I have two bachelor’s degrees; one is in Communications and the other is in English. I also have a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and two years of doctoral coursework from the University of Phoenix. In 2018, I began my Leadership for Learning Ed.D. at the University of Washington-Seattle. As you can see, I have been attending school most of my life and I absolutely love to learn!
I am passionate about researching current trends and designing new strategies to improve the American education system. I chose to pursue my doctorate at the University of Washington because I want to fine-tune my craft as a champion for educational equity and build a community of educators who want to influence positive change. I want to be the type of doctor to help turn around schools so that children can succeed and excel. I imagine parents, teachers, school administrators, and educational researchers all coming together to improve schools as a team!
I believe in learning and leading with a culturally responsive lens. I am an adaptive leader that enjoys working with diverse groups of people and loves to learn right alongside the students! My core beliefs are in alignment with promoting equity in education and reimagining schools. I have high expectations and standards for ALL staff and EVERY student.
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be everything! I wanted to be an athlete, talk-show host and author. Once I started college, I gained an interest in learning about other cultures through food, music, and fashion. I have always been inspired by learning from other people. I want to share this love with the entire Robertson community!
I am excited to become a “Rocket” and join a school with a rich history and pride!

On Monday, August 3, 2020, the Yakima School Board approved YSD's proposed Reopening Plan for OSPI. This is NOT an alert of how school will start in the fall (i.e. distance learning) but we expect that info from the health dept in 1-2 days. To review our plan, go online to www.YSD7.org/reopeningplan
