Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program provides free samples of new produce items to elementary students that they may not have been exposed to before such as dragon fruit or purple sweet potatoes. The goal of the program is to help introduce students to healthy eating habits and get them excited about including a variety of fruits and vegetables in their diet. The Yakima School District Child Nutrition Department is proud to begin their 12th year of the program. The program will begin for students on October 4th, 2021 through the end of the school year.
FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES UPDATE
As school food service programs are making preparations to return to normal service and menus, we are facing unprecedented issues with the supply chain that will cause us to alter our posted menus with little to no notice. We are working closely with our distributors and manufacturers to secure both the food and supply items needed to support our program.
While it is our intention to serve the posted menu each day at every school, supply issues will not make this possible throughout the school year until the supply chain issues are rectified. We will always attempt to substitute the scheduled menu item with another that is as similar as possible to the extent we are able to do so.
Please know that we will always provide wholesome meals each and every day.
